In September the fourth worldwide Old Possum’s Poetry Competition launched with new poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy in the judges chair. The organising body, the Children’s Poetry Bookshelf took the theme of Heroes and Heroines for the theme of this year’s entries. As we are going to press the award winners are being announced. The publisher Frances Lincoln Limited and Seven Stories, the Centre for Children’s Books, have announced their second Diverse Voices Award in memory of Frances Lincoln (1945 – 2001), to encourage and promote diversity in children’s fiction. The closing date for entries is 26th February 2010 and the winner will be announced at a ceremony at seven Stories in June 2010.
Mal Peet’s Exposure, his third book featuring the cynical sports journalist Paul Faustino has been announced as the winner of the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize 2009.
