This book is subtitled 'An Everyday Guide to Poetic Forms.' I'd contest the 'everyday' part of that description, though the book does indeed demonstrate to readers all kinds of verse forms they might use in their own work. This it does by showing examples of each (couplet, quatrain, pantoum, haiku etc) on wide, white pages decorated with some of the most beautiful illustrations I've seen in ages.

The volume in your hands just oozes with style and class and luxury and is a steal at the price. Every English teacher should have one to share with a class and any child who's given this for a present will be almost guaranteed either to try her hand at some of the forms suggested or else to imitate the glowing, energetic and at the same time delicate pictures. You can't lose, really, if you buy this book. It comes garlanded with acclaim from the USA where it was first published and quite right too. Their names are perhaps a little hard to say, but I think this partnership of Janeczko and Raschka should be better known in this country.

Perhaps Armadillo readers can help to spread the word.
