Sand Dancers, Let the Dance Begin, launch party, 7th May 2009.
St Jude's Primary School in Elephant and Castle, launched Lynda Waterhouse's new book, The Sand Dancers: Let the Dance Begin, published by Piccadilly Press. The story follows Cassie, the sand sprite, who is trying to get a place at Sandringham Dance School, which had been closed for nine years after the great sandstorm. Intrigue, friendship, sprite grudge holding and hanging out with surf boys are all part of this exciting story.
Lynda works part time in the primary school. In the school's packed assembly hall on the launch night, the dance club performed to 'The Tide is high', the choir sang 'Dancing Queen' and a group of Year 5 girls performed a scene from the book. There was also a premiere of 15 year old Hannah's film, 'Sand Dancers'. The evening was rounded off with 15-year-old Freya's iced sand sprite buns.
It was a wonderful way to involve and inspire children and families in familiar surroundings.
Lynda is currently working on a series of dance/writing workshops as well as planning a June Dune Day at Ynylas Nature Reserve in Wales.
